More is not better. Better is better.
It’s the great entrepreneurial lie: “If I just grow my revenue, my problems will go away.”
We enter February chasing “more.” More leads. More sales. More “Exposure.” But if your machine is inefficient, adding more fuel (revenue) just makes the engine explode faster.
In my book Momentum & Mastery, we focus on the transition from Drift to Drive. One of the fastest ways to drift is to chase “Low-Leverage Revenue”—the kind that looks good on a spreadsheet but steals your time, your energy, and your emotional capital.
The Science of the “High-Margin Pivot”
To perform at the level of a Master Operator, you have to stop being a revenue-chaser and start being a Margin-Protector. Top financial minds like Mike Michalowicz (Profit First) or even the high-ticket philosophy of someone like Dan Kennedy emphasize one thing: You don’t take revenue to the bank; you take margin.
How to audit your Profit Machine this week:
- The 80/20 Margin Audit: Identify the 20% of your activities that generated 80% of your actual profit in January. Why are you spending time on anything else?
- The “Hidden Tax” of Complexity: Every “custom” project or “difficult” client carries a hidden tax. It slows down your systems and forces the Operator to work harder for less.
- The Qualified Champion Rate: Are you charging based on the time you spend or the transformation you provide? High-leverage profit lives in the transformation.
If your goals for 2026 are about “freedom” and “autonomy,” you can’t get there by working 80 hours a week for low-margin returns. You get there by optimizing for profit.
This Week’s Mastery Question: If you had to double your profit by the end of Q1 without adding a single new hour to your work week, what would you have to stop doing immediately?
