Cultural Gravity – AN EXPOSÉ BY SPENCER COMBS

The Invisible Force Keeping Entrepreneurs & High Performers Stuck —
And Why Everything You’ve Tried Hasn’t Fixed It

Let’s start with something uncomfortable. You’re not lazy. You’re not untalented. You’re not missing the right strategy.

You’ve already proven you can build something. You’re generating real revenue — six figures, maybe more. You’ve hired people, built systems, read the books, hired the coaches, attended the conferences. You’ve done the work.

And yet.

You’re still hitting the same ceiling. The revenue plateaus. The chaos keeps coming back. You work 60-hour weeks and wonder why it doesn’t feel like progress. You’ve had the breakthroughs — and then watched them slowly evaporate. You’ve told yourself you just need the right system. The right hire. The right strategy. And every time you find the “right” thing — something pulls you back.

What if the thing pulling you back isn’t a business problem at all?

What if there’s a force — invisible, engineered, and operating 24 hours a day — that is specifically designed to keep you exactly where you are?

There is. It has a name. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

It’s called Cultural Gravity.

And it’s the real reason you’re stuck.

In physics, gravity is the force that pulls objects toward each other — and toward the ground. It’s invisible. It’s constant. And it requires no effort on your part to work. You don’t have to believe in gravity for it to affect you. You don’t have to understand it. You just have to exist within it.

Cultural Gravity works the same way. Except instead of pulling you toward the earth, it pulls you toward average.

It is not a natural force. It is an engineered one.

It is built from:

  • Social media algorithms
  • — designed not to inform you but to keep you scrolling, reactive, and comparing yourself to a curated highlight reel of everyone else’s success.
  • Industry “best practices”
  • — the unspoken rules about how business is supposed to be done in your world. Rules that were written by someone else, for someone else’s business, in someone else’s era.
  • Family expectations
  • — the invisible ceiling of what success is “supposed” to look like in your household, your neighborhood, your community.
  • The Shoulds
  • — the constant noise of what you “should” be doing, who you “should” be, how you “should” feel about where you are.

Cultural Gravity is the combined weight of all of it. And it has one primary function:

To keep you exactly where you are — and make you believe that’s where you belong.

It celebrates your revenue milestones while staying silent about your failing marriage. It applauds the systems you build while ignoring that you’re dying on the inside. It rewards the fruit while the root is rotting.

It doesn’t punish you for standing still. It doesn’t need to. It just makes staying in place feel comfortable — even inevitable.

And here’s the most dangerous thing about Cultural Gravity: you don’t have to do anything for it to work on you. You just have to stop fighting.

The second you stop being proactive — the second you let the urgency of today crowd out the vision of tomorrow — gravity takes over. And it pulls you back into reactive mode. Back into blame. Back into justification. Back into the same patterns you’ve been running your entire life.

I know this because I’ve been there. Standing on the bank of the Caloosahatchee River in Cape Coral, Florida — over 20 years ago. I had everything Cultural Gravity told me I should want.

A real estate team that was crushing it. Six buyer agents. Two admins. A waterfront house. A 745 BMW. Six figures on paper. By every external measure — I was winning.

In reality — my wife had decided she wasn’t coming home. I was about to raise my five-year-old daughter alone. And despite working 60-plus hours a week and having all the systems and doing everything the gurus told me I was supposed to do — it wasn’t working.

The codependency. The people pleasing. The need to control everything. It wasn’t just showing up in my business. It was everywhere. In my marriage. My health. My relationships. All of it.

And that’s when it hit me: this wasn’t a business problem. This was a pattern problem. And the pattern was being held in place by something I didn’t have a name for yet.

I spent the next several years reverse engineering it. I studied NLP. Learned about hypnosis. Got certified in multiple forms of coaching. Mapped where patterns show up, how they form, what breaks them. Worked inside 47+ businesses across real estate, insurance, HVAC, construction, and professional services. Logged 10,000+ hours of coaching.

What I found changed everything.

Cultural Gravity isn’t a metaphor. It’s measurable. The evidence is hiding in plain sight — in the statistics that define the average entrepreneur’s life across every dimension that matters.

Look at the odds you’re already defying — or failing to defy:

In Business & Career

  • 65.3% of businesses fail within 10 years (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024)
  • 79% of the global workforce is disengaged at work (Gallup, 2024)
  • Only 30% of U.S. workers report being engaged — the lowest level recorded in a decade

Sources: BLS Business Employment Dynamics 2024; Gallup State of the Global Workplace 2024

In Health

  • 4 in 10 American adults have obesity (CDC, 2024)
  • 3 in 4 adults are overweight or obese (73.6%) — the highest levels ever recorded (Lancet, 2024)
  • More than 75% of adults fail to meet basic physical activity guidelines

Sources: CDC National Center for Health Statistics 2024; Lancet Global Burden of Disease 2024

In Relationships

  • 1 in 2 American adults reports significant loneliness — declared a public health epidemic by the U.S. Surgeon General (2023)
  • 47% of people say their relationships lack genuine meaning (Harvard Making Caring Common Project, 2024)
  • Social isolation carries the same health risk as smoking 15 cigarettes per day

Sources: U.S. Surgeon General Advisory on Loneliness 2023; Harvard MCC Survey 2024

In Finances

  • 75% of Americans do not feel financially secure — and 30% never expect to be (Bankrate, 2024)
  • 62% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck — including 1 in 3 earning $200,000 or more (PYMNTS Intelligence, 2024)

In Mindset & Burnout

  • 82% of employees are at risk of burnout (DHR Global, 2024-2025)
  • 66% of workers globally report struggling rather than thriving (Gallup, 2024)

This isn’t a personal failure. This is Cultural Gravity winning — at a global scale.

The average outcome across business, health, relationships, finances, and mental well-being is not good. And yet most entrepreneurs are unconsciously calibrated to the average. Their peer group, their environment, their habits — all set to produce exactly the median result.

Cultural Gravity doesn’t just pull you toward average. It pulls you toward average in every area of your life simultaneously. Because how you do anything is how you do everything.

After 10,000+ hours of coaching inside 47+ businesses, I’ve identified four distinct patterns that every entrepreneur falls into — four ways Cultural Gravity shows up in your specific situation. Most people have no idea which pattern they’re running. They just know something feels off.

Read each one. One of these is going to feel uncomfortably familiar.

Pattern #1: The Unqualified Victim — The Protection Pattern

“Things just happen to me. I’m doing the best I can with what I have.”

You’ve been knocked around by the market, by a bad partner, by the economy, by circumstances outside your control. And honestly? Some of that is true. But somewhere along the way, you started defining yourself by what’s happened to you rather than what you’re going to do about it.

This pattern shows up as:

  • Constant blame — the market, the economy, the team, the timing
  • Chronic justification — reasons why the goal isn’t achievable right now
  • Paralysis disguised as caution — protection mode masking as wisdom
  • A feeling that external forces control your destiny

The lie Cultural Gravity is telling you: “You’re powerless. Things just happen to you.”

The truth: You’re stuck because you’ve given up control. You’re choosing drift over drive — not because you can’t do better, but because gravity has convinced you that you can’t.

What it’s costing you: Revenue you’re not generating. Relationships eroding under the weight of resentment. Respect — from your team, your market, and quietly, from yourself.

Pattern #2: The Unqualified Champion — The Positivity Pattern

“I know this is going to work. I just need to find the right strategy.”

You’ve got more ideas than most people have in a lifetime. You’re passionate. You’re committed. You genuinely believe in what you’re doing. And you’ve started more things than you can count.

The problem isn’t your vision. The problem is the gap between vision and execution — and the fact that Cultural Gravity has convinced you the gap is a strategy problem when it’s actually a mechanics problem.

This pattern shows up as:

  • Chronic frustration — you know what to do but can’t seem to execute
  • Shiny object syndrome — the next strategy is always more compelling than the current one
  • Brilliant ideas that die in your head — or in a notes app — or in a voice memo
  • A reputation for enthusiasm that has slowly stopped converting into credibility

The lie Cultural Gravity is telling you: “You just need the right strategy. Then you’ll execute.”

The truth: You don’t need another strategy. You need structure. You need systems. You need mechanics. Your mindset is strong — it’s been carrying the entire load. And it’s exhausted.

What it’s costing you: Wasted potential on a massive scale. Your best ideas will never see the light of day without a system to execute them. People in your life have quietly stopped taking your ideas seriously. And somewhere inside, you know it.

Pattern #3: The Qualified Victim — The Productive Pattern

“I’ve built all of this. Why does it still feel like a prison?”

This is the pattern most coaches don’t talk about — because from the outside, you look like a success story. You’re generating real revenue. You have systems. You have a team. You’ve proven the model works.

And you’re miserable.

Not in a dramatic, obvious way. In a quiet, creeping way. The kind of miserable that sneaks up on you somewhere between the third consecutive 60-hour week and the moment you realize you can’t remember the last time you felt genuinely excited about your business.

This pattern shows up as:

  • Revenue that has plateaued — and a ceiling you cannot seem to break through
  • Burnout that feels like a character flaw rather than a system problem
  • A business that runs you rather than the other way around
  • Making $500K a year and seriously considering quitting
  • Success on paper that feels hollow in real life

The lie Cultural Gravity is telling you: “If you just had more money, you’d feel better.”

The truth: More money without purpose is more misery. You haven’t built a business. You’ve built a very elaborate, very productive prison. And Cultural Gravity loves you here — because you look successful on the outside while you’re dying on the inside. You’re not going to fight a force you can’t see.

What it’s costing you: The things that actually matter. Not the revenue — the soul behind it. Your relationships. Your health. The version of yourself you started this for.

Pattern #4: The Qualified Champion — The Purpose Pattern

“I know where I’m going. I just need everything around me to move faster.”

This is the pattern we’re building toward — and if you’re here, you’re closer than you think. You have the mindset AND the mechanics. You’re generating results AND you’re doing it with intention. But something is still blocking the next level.

Cultural Gravity still has its grip on you — just higher up. It’s showing up in your team’s resistance to growth. In the market’s lag behind your vision. In the systems that were built for the business you had, not the business you’re building.

The truth about this pattern: You don’t have a motivation problem. You have a gravity problem. The force pulling against you is stronger now — because the stakes are higher. This is where most high performers plateau. Not because they lack ability but because they haven’t built for escape velocity.

Let’s put a number on the invisible. Because Jay Abraham was right about one thing: until you can see the cost of inaction, inaction feels free.

It isn’t. Based on data from McKinsey, Gallup, the U.S. Department of Labor, and HubSpot, here is a conservative estimate of what Cultural Gravity costs the average entrepreneur in its target revenue range each year:

Cultural Gravity annual cost breakdown for entrepreneurs — Spencer Combs

$200,000 per year. That’s the cost of staying in the same pattern. At a $250K revenue base — which is the midpoint of our target audience — that represents $200,000 in value that should exist but doesn’t. Not because you’re not working hard enough. Because Cultural Gravity is working harder than you are.

And that’s only the financial cost. It doesn’t account for the marriage under strain. The health that’s been deprioritized for years. The kids who see a parent who’s always working but never present. The version of yourself you started this whole thing to become — still waiting.

Cultural Gravity isn’t just expensive. It’s compounding. Every year you stay in the same pattern is a year of interest paid on a debt you didn’t consciously take on.

Every high performer I’ve studied — across industries, across income levels, across backgrounds — who successfully broke free from Cultural Gravity had three things operating in alignment. Not two of three. Not one very strong one compensating for the others. All three. Aligned.

I call them Movement, Mindset, and Mechanics.

Factor 1: Movement

Movement is the foundational energy that determines whether you’re in Drift or Drive. It’s not about motivation — motivation is a mood. Movement is a decision. It’s the choice, made deliberately, to stop being pulled and start pushing.

Most people are drifting without knowing it. They’re reactive. They’re putting out fires. They’re responding to the loudest voice in the room rather than the most important one. And Cultural Gravity celebrates this — because a drifting person is no threat to the status quo.

Drive is the state you enter when Movement is engaged. You’re proactive. You’re intentional. You have a direction and you’re moving toward it with purpose rather than away from something out of fear.

Factor 2: Mindset

Mindset is not positive thinking. It is not affirmations. It is not a morning routine that involves a gratitude journal and cold water.

Mindset — real mindset — is five internal elements operating together:

  • Commitment — not to a goal but to the identity of someone who achieves it
  • Focus — not concentration, but directional clarity. Where is your attention aimed?
  • Accountability — the ability to account. Own it, honor it, learn from it
  • Belief — the specific, conscious choice of faith over fear
  • Flexibility — the willingness to bend without breaking when reality doesn’t match the plan

When any one of these is missing, the entire mindset system weakens. And Cultural Gravity has specifically targeted all five.

Factor 3: Mechanics

Mechanics are the external structures — the systems, rhythms, and processes — that allow your mindset to produce results without requiring constant willpower.

Willpower is finite. Systems are not.

The five mechanical elements that determine whether a business scales or stagnates:

  • Outcomes — specific, written, measurable commitments to where you’re going
  • Plan — the standards and benchmarks that define what winning looks like
  • Resources — people, time, money, and technology aligned to the outcome
  • Systems — the rhythms and processes that produce results without reinvention every day
  • Feedback — the loop that tells you whether what you’re doing is working

When Mindset and Mechanics are congruent — when they’re pulling in the same direction — something extraordinary happens.

You enter what I call Stable Orbit. Growth becomes your new normal. Cultural Gravity still exists — but you’ve built enough escape velocity that it can’t pull you back.

I didn’t build this framework in a classroom. I built it on the bank of the Caloosahatchee River and in the 24 years since.

After I lost what Cultural Gravity had told me to want, I had a choice. I could blame the market, the timing, the economy, the relationship. Or I could do something harder: look at the pattern I was running and decide to break it.

I chose the harder thing.

I spent two years in the most intense personal and professional reconstruction of my life. Studied NLP. Got certified. Started mapping patterns — not just in my own life but in the businesses I was coaching. And I noticed something that changed everything:

The same pattern showing up in someone’s revenue was showing up in their relationships. The same pattern showing up in their leadership was showing up in their health. The same pattern — everywhere.

How you do anything is how you do everything. — Harv Eker

That realization became the Unshakeable Framework — a system for identifying which pattern you’re running, which area of your business it’s hurting first, and what to do about it in a sequence that actually works.

Here’s what it has produced:

  • An insurance agency owner took his business from $7M to $18M in 12 months after losing 30% of his book
  • A real estate agent went from 72 transactions to 172 in a single year
  • A business owner eliminated $100,000 in dead expenses in 30 days after one resource audit

Not because I gave them a new strategy. Because we identified the pattern, broke it, and rebuilt with congruent Mindset and Mechanics.

Everything I’ve shown you in this document — the patterns, the data, the framework — is designed to do one thing: get you to this moment.

The moment where you make a decision.

Not a commitment to a program. Not a purchase. A decision — the kind that happens before any of that — about whether you’re going to keep letting Cultural Gravity run your business and your life, or whether you’re going to become what I call Defiant.

Being Defiant is how we move away from Cultural Gravity. Becoming Unshakeable is how we stay that way.

Let me walk you through the four factors that move someone from Drift to Drive — because this is where the shift happens, and it doesn’t require a purchase to begin.

Factor 1: Dream

Not a goal. A Dream — the unconstrained, unedited vision of what your life looks like when Cultural Gravity no longer has the final word.

What does your business look like when it runs without you having to be inside every decision? What does your health look like when it’s a source of energy rather than a source of guilt? What do your relationships look like when you’re present rather than preoccupied?

That’s the Dream. Write it. Don’t edit it yet. Let it be bigger than you think you’re allowed to want.

Factor 2: Desire

Desire is the emotional fuel that makes the Dream non-negotiable. It’s the answer to “why does this matter?” — and if the answer is shallow, the fuel runs out.

The most powerful desire isn’t about money. It’s about identity. Who do you become when you break free? Who do the people around you get to experience when Cultural Gravity no longer has its hand on your throttle?

That’s your Desire. Find the real one — not the one that sounds impressive, but the one that makes your chest tight when you think about not achieving it.

Factor 3: Disturbance

Disturbance is the gap. The distance between where you are and where you want to be — felt, not just observed.

Most people look at that gap and feel defeated. The Defiant look at it and feel disturbed. Restless. Unwilling to accept the gap as permanent.

You’ve been reading this document. Which pattern did you recognize yourself in? Where is Cultural Gravity winning in your life right now? Name it. Feel it. Don’t run from it.

That discomfort is the disturbance. It is not a problem to be managed. It is fuel.

Factor 4: Decision

The Decision is the moment you stop negotiating with gravity.

Not the moment you sign up for something. Not the moment you buy something. The moment you decide — privately, irrevocably — that you are done producing someone else’s dream.

That’s it. That’s the point of no return.

Everything after the Decision — the program, the coaching, the community, the event — is just mechanics. The Decision has to happen first.

You know your pattern. That’s 90% of the work. Breaking it — that’s what we do together.

You’ve just read something that most entrepreneurs will never encounter — a clear, documented explanation of the force that’s been running their business without their permission.

Most people will read this, feel the recognition, and do nothing. Cultural Gravity will make sure of that. It will tell you that you’re too busy. That you already knew this. That you’ll come back to it later.

Later is how drift stays in power.

Here’s what I want you to do right now — before you close this document, before you go back to your inbox, before the next urgent thing pulls you away.
