THE ORIGIN STORY

I was 28 years old, standing at the edge of the Caloosahatchee River in Florida.

Divorce on the horizon. What was left of my life packed into an 8×10 storage unit. I’d led sales teams that closed over $200 million in volume. I’d coached. I’d pushed. I’d done everything I was supposed to do.

And I still drifted.

That night didn’t break me. It showed me something I couldn’t unsee: the problem was never effort. The problem was a pattern I couldn’t see — because I was living inside it.

That moment changed everything about how I work with people.

WHAT I LEARNED

Here’s what 20+ years of working with entrepreneurs has taught me:

The people who stay stuck aren’t lazy. They’re not untalented. They’re not unlucky.

They’re running a pattern — invisible, automatic, and almost always inherited from the culture around them — that quietly caps everything they’re capable of. I call the force driving that pattern Cultural Gravity. It doesn’t target your worst days. It targets your good ones. It pulls you toward a good life — and away from your best one — without you ever making the decision to settle.

Most people feel it as frustration. As burnout. As the nagging sense that the effort they’re putting in should be producing more than it is. It shows up in language like “I should be further along” or “I should have figured this out by now.”

That’s not a discipline problem. That’s a pattern problem.

And patterns can be broken.

WHO I AM

I’m Spencer Combs — author of Momentum & Mastery, NLP Master Practitioner, and founder of Defiant Resources.

I drove a real estate team from $1.5M to $42M in production. I’ve coached 300+ business owners and leaders across real estate, insurance, HVAC, construction, and professional services. I’ve stood on stages across the country and sat across the table from entrepreneurs who were one pattern-shift away from a completely different life.

I’m also a Tony Robbins Firewalker, Train the Trainer graduate, and BOLD 9X alumni. I volunteer as a docent aboard the USS Orleck DD-886 — a Navy destroyer museum in Jacksonville, FL — because history and service matter to me, and I believe who you are away from the business reveals everything about who you are inside it.

My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of everything I do. That’s not a marketing line. It’s just true.
